This week we will look back on ^HousingFutures’ articles of 2017. Many articles that we published in 2017 were on homelessness. Like in Seattle, the city of Amazon, where the success of tech companies is related to housing prices in the city, leading to more homeless in the streets. Josh concludes his article that companies should bother about the living conditions of vulnerable in the cities where they are based. ‘What type of corporate citizen do you wish to be?’
We were very happy to share articles about how people did stand up and work on innovative solutions to fight homelessness, like our interview with Michal Shore of Hom inc., whose organization provided housing for a dazzling 2400 households.
We also covered positive examples from Europe, like Alix Goldstein’s report of the Housing First meeting at the International Social Housing Festival (ISHF), where practitioners from the UK, Finland, France and the Netherlands shared their experiences. Housing First has proven to be a very effective method to end homelessness. Key factors include a close collaboration of various actors and the involvement of users -previously homeless- in the process. Also Josh’ article about innovative homeless shelters around the world is inspirational.
Finally we published an article in which we focus on possible improvement in the current system. As many homeless are suffering mental health problems, Josh argues that housing providers should get rid of a preference for housing homeless if the proper supports cannot be provided.
We hope to keep on covering all innovative practices on helping homeless from the streets. Do you have an interesting story to share with us? Don’t hesitate to approach us! info@housing-futures.org
